Drapery Measuring Instruction

Step 1: Measure the Width

Plan Your Rod or Track Placement

If your curtain rod or track is already installed, measure its full length from one end to the other.

If you're installing a new rod or track, determine its position before measuring.

For the best visual effect, mount the rod 6–10 inches (15–25 cm) above the window frame and extend it 6–15 inches (15–38 cm) beyond each side. This gives your curtains room to stack when open, allows more natural light into the room, and makes the window appear larger.

Once you've marked the mounting locations, measure the total rod or track length. Use this measurement when selecting your curtain width.

Step 2: Know CANISTEOS Default Fullness

To ensure a tailored look and avoid a 'flat' appearance, you need to consider to add fullness for certain header styles for additional width to cover.

Pinch Pleat, Grommet, Rod Pocket and Back Tab

The fabric fullness is already accounted for in the design. We use 200% fabric fullness to create the pleats, ensuring a rich and voluminous look.

Rod Pocket and Back Tab

Rod Pocket and Back Tab curtains are made with a default 2× fullness (200%), creating soft, balanced folds for a full, elegant appearance.

If you prefer a different fullness, such as 1× (100%) or 1.5× (150%), we can customize it to your specifications. Simply leave your requested fullness ratio in the order notes when placing your order.

If no special request is provided, your curtains will be made with the standard 2× fullness by default.

Note: Rod Pocket and Back Tab Curtain length is measured from the top of the pole to floor.

1.0X Fullness

1.5X Fullness

2.0X Fullness

Step 3: Determine Drapery Finished Width and Length (with example)

Ordered Width = Finished Curtain Panel Width (Pleats Fully Extended)

For Pinch Pleat curtains, the width you order is the finished panel width measured when the curtain is fully extended from the first pleat edge to the last pleat edge. Length is measured from the curtain hook'seyelet ring.

For example, if your curtain rod measures 100 inches, you can order:

  • 1 panel: 100 inches wide, or
  • 2 panels: 50 inches wide each

Pinch Pleat curtains are made with a default 2× fullness (200%) to create evenly spaced, elegant folds. The pleats are professionally sewn and permanently set for a consistent appearance.

Note: The stacked width (the space the curtain occupies when fully opened) varies depending on the curtain width.

Approximate Stacked Width

The stacked width refers to the space the curtain occupies when fully opened. The actual stacked width varies depending on the number of panels ordered.

Two Panels (Double Opening) VS One Panel (Single Opening)

Example(Two Panels): A 100-inch rod width with two 50-inch panels.

Approximate Stacked Width(Double Opening)
Approximate Stacked Width(Single Opening)
Ordered Panel Width: 39"–78" (100–200 cm)
11"–15" (29–38 cm)
17"–24" (42–62 cm)
78"–118" (200–300 cm)
15"–19" (38–48 cm)
24"–32" (62–82 cm)
118"–157" (300–400 cm)
19"–23" (48–58 cm)
32"–40" (82–102 cm)
157"–197" (400–500 cm)
23"–27" (58–68 cm)
40"–48" (102–122 cm)
197"–236" (500–600 cm)
27"–31" (68–78 cm)
48"–56" (122–142 cm)

Single Panel Width when fully extended=Your Order Width

  • For example, if your curtain rod measures 100 inches, you can order:
1 panel: 100 inches wide, or
2 panels: 50 inches wide each

Grommet curtains are made with a default 2× fullness (200%)

Length should be measured from the top of the rod down to the floor or your preferred endpoint.
Grommet 1.6 inches inner diameter, outside diameter 2.25 inches.
Note: The stacked width (the space the curtain occupies when fully opened) varies depending on the curtain width.

Note

  • Pinch Pleat headers come with adjustable pin hooks. Grommet, Rod Pocket, and Back Tab headers do not include hooks.
  • Drapery rings and clip rings are sold separately.
  • Use a steel tape measure and record all measurements to the nearest 1 inch.
  • Measure each window individually, even if multiple windows appear to be the same size.
  • These measuring guidelines are intended for standard window installations. If your windows have a unique shape or configuration, please contact us before ordering.
